2024 Highlights and What’s Next: NEGDA’s Plans for 2025

NEGDA has matured from its informal beginnings over 13 years ago into a recognized trade group. Since late 2022, we have been working diligently to expand our reach and solidify our position as a unique resource for generator dealers.

Today, NEGDA’s membership collectively represents:

  • more than $150 Million in generator-related revenue
  • over 70,000 gensets under agreement for service, repair, and maintenance
  • employment for nearly 800 people

While NEGDA has grown significantly, we remain dedicated to promoting the growth and professionalism of our members by facilitating networking and educational opportunities, and fostering connections with manufacturers, suppliers, and businesses who are vital to the generator industry.

Some of our notable accomplishments in 2024 included:

Changing our name and focus from “Northern” to “National”:  The intention has been that NEGDA would “someday” be a national organization and in 2024 we recognized that we had a proven concept that was resonating with both dealers and vendors, so it was time to make the leap and cast a wider net as the “National Emergency Generator Dealer Association.”

Launching our Annual Business Partner Sponsorship Program: We’re proud to have cultivated partnerships with all major manufacturers, several key distributors, and a range of professional service experts, all dedicated to serving the generator industry. This broad collaboration has ensured producing well-rounded, industry-relevant events, discussions, and broadening all stakeholders’ professional network.

Developing a “Level 1 Generator Technician” Training Curriculum: We Developed Level 1 curriculum for new generator service technicians including training on Basic Electricity and Air Cooled Generators.

Defining Generator Service Technician “Levels”: We formed a “Technician Level Subcommittee” who began defining technician levels and the respective technical capabilities, skills, training, and personality types of each.  We feel that this work is integral to ensure that NEGDA training curriculum is reflective of needs/expectations at each level and ensures that the NEGDA membership has a consistent way of communicating regarding credentials of technicians for their individual organization’s recruitment and retention purposes.

Our 2025 Initiatives include:

Increasing Membership from 31 to 45 member companies with a focus on growing the Mid-Atlantic region. In 2024 we gained traction and momentum within this region and while this will be where we focus our membership recruitment efforts in 2025, we will continue to welcome members from anywhere in the U.S.

New Virtual Meeting Model: NEGDA has introduced a new virtual meeting format designed to facilitate meaningful conversations between business partners and dealer members. This format provides a platform for partners to engage directly with dealers, gather valuable feedback, and address specific questions related to their area of expertise and/or business.

Business partners who are interested in connecting with dealer members are welcome to host these virtual meetings*, which offer a unique opportunity to gain insights and foster stronger relationships.

The format is designed to be interactive and informative, helping both parties stay aligned and address relevant industry challenges.

By participating in these virtual meetings, partners can directly support the professional development of dealers while also gaining a deeper understanding of their needs.

*To host a virtual meeting, a Speaker Application must be submitted, reviewed, and approved.  Hosting is not guaranteed and is available on a first come, first served basis.

Launching two classes for Level 1 Generator Service Technician Training: one in April, one in August.  More details to follow soon!
